Veeam Infrastructure Appliance: Capacity expansion

Post by redZonk »

Hello all

I have a question regarding expanding the capacity of a Veeam Infrastructure Appliance (repository).
I found a Q&A for Veeam Infrastructure Appliance viewtopic.php?f=2&t=100070&start=0 and have a question about expanding its capacity.
Has anything changed in that regard? According to that Q&A, it wasn’t possible at the time to expand the capacity within a single server. Is that on the roadmap?

From my perspective, there are two options for capacity expansion.
First: If I have an HPE Alletra 4120 equipped with 12 LFF disks and configure a RAID 6 array with those disks, I could install additional disks in the server and expand the RAID. After that, however, I’d need to be able to expand the partition and the file system. As I understand it, that’s not currently supported.

Second: If I install another 12 disks and create a new RAID6 with them? Is there a way to create the partition and the file system and then incorporate it into a SOBR?
Or do you see another option?

We currently have a customer who needs to procure a new server. However, this server needs to be expandable in the future.

Thanks
Patrick

Hi Patrick

Storage Management for our appliances is part of our upcoming version 13.1.
In v13.0, you will need to deploy a new Infrastructure Appliance for the new disks. There are unsupported ways in v13.0 to extend backup storage, but I strongly recommend to wait for the v13.1 release if you need to extend today.
