Regarding upgrades/updates for VBR13

Post by tanoue »

Hi,

I would like to ask a few questions regarding upgrades and updates for VBR13.

I would like to verify, for each release version of VBR13, whether it falls under the category of an "update" or an "upgrade."
Is there a way to check this in the publicly available information?

<Public Information>
https://www.veeam.com/kb4738
https://www.veeam.com/kb2680

I believe the release details for upgrades are fully documented in the public information mentioned above; does the same apply to updates?
For example, if VBR shows build 13.0.3.63 and automatic updates are enabled,
will security updates (or similar) be applied while the build number remains 13.0.3.63
and without the change being reflected in the public information?

Are updates provided for older build versions of VBR13?
Currently, version 13.1 is the latest, but will updates still be provided for older versions such as build 13.0.3.63?

Thanks

https://www.veeam.com/kb4738
https://www.veeam.com/kb2680

Hi Tanoue,

1. Upgrades mean between major versions, for example v12 => v13. We use Major.Minor syntax here. In User Guide, you will see the Upgrade Checklist changed when new major version is released.

2. Depends on what you mean by Security updates and whether you're on the Software Appliance (VSA) or a Windows Backup Server. Software Appliance security patches are not only Veeam products, but also other dependencies, so if a dependency is updated with a security fix, Veeam version won't change. Only when we make changes to our product will you see a version number change. And specific to the VSA, hotfixes will also increment the build-number.

3. We follow our Product Life Cycle for End of Fix and End of Support. New feature-ful patches will only be for latest version, but older versions are still possible for security patches. (For example, we recently released 13.0.3 patch for 13.0.x builds that contained security fixes)
