As I understand it, starting with Veeam Backup & Replication v13, new Backup Jobs can only be configured with time-based retention. However, Backup Jobs that were originally configured with restore point-based retention in v12 continue to function after upgrading to v13.
Could you please clarify the future direction of this feature?
Is it correct to understand that Backup Jobs configured with restore point-based retention remain fully supported in v13 and will continue to be supported throughout the v13 support period?
Is there any plan to deprecate or completely remove support for restore point-based retention in v14 or later versions?
We are currently evaluating long-term retention design options and would like to understand whether existing restore point-based retention jobs can be relied upon going forward.
While it is still supported within v13 for existing jobs, I recommend switching to time-based retention.
Do not rely on restore point-based retention anymore, as it is going away. You likely will not be able to upgrade to version 14 if there are still jobs configured with restore point-based retention.
