Replica to a Hyper-V host with a version lower than Windows 2016 is supported only on Windows-based backup servers

Post by hgoetze »

Hello,

In the past few days, I have completed the migration of B&R from a Windows server to the software appliance. That worked well overall.

However, I have a Linux VM running in a Hyper-V cluster consisting of three Windows Hyper-V Server 2019 hosts. When I create a backup job (using the default settings), I receive the following error message:

“Failed: Error: Replica to a Hyper-V host with a version lower than Windows 2016 is supported only on Windows-based backup servers”

I don’t understand what this message is supposed to mean. I do not want to use replication—only a simple backup. Other backup jobs for VMs (Windows and Linux) in the cluster are running without any issues.

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?

Hello, Heiko,

That sounds like a technical issue, potentially related to the migration.
Also, check if the VMs on your Hyper-V hosts have hardware version 8+; if not (for example, you see v.5), that could cause this issue. Then you need to upgrade such VMs.
If the hardware version is not the case, I recommend opening a case with Veeam support.

Hello Vladimir.

The Hyper-V configuration Version of the VM was 5.0. I upgraded it to 9.0. Now the Backup is running.
Thanks for the help.
