how to save NFS mount with 9.5 U4

Post by adebrulle »

Hello.

In a conference Veeam Tour,Veeam told me that in the 9.5 U4 we could save a nfs mount with the linux agent...
Not with VPower NFS !

I tried but without success with Agnet backup policy or with a backup job : on linux server.

Could you tell me if it 's possible and how do that ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Please clarify what exactly do you mean by "save NFS mount"? Are you referring to configuring NFS share as a target for Agent? That is possible if you choose "NFS" radio button on "Shared Folder" step.

Thanks!

I just want to save a shared nfs dir.
For the moment if you save a linux VM and have mouted nfs dir from a nettap or other unix\linux server such ( in /etc/fstab as nfs mount)
X.X.X.X:/vol/vol_NFSCAO/qtree_PC 92298816 80991680 11307136 88% /PC
x.X.X.y:/serveur/OUT x x /OUTSERVERY

you dont save this directory.

I just would like to save it from the vm linux or directly from nettap but save it ....

Thanks.

Oh, I think that now I see what you mean.

In order to save files from NFS share, you have to configure snapshot-less file-level job for agent. Please check this page - you need to select "Backup directly from live file system" checkbox.

Thanks!

[MERGED] NFS shares on a VM

Post by smwoodcrafts »

Hey All,
In our VMware environment, as with everyone else's, we back up both Windows and Linux VM. Since I'm newer to the community, I have a rookie question. We have a few Linux VMs that have NFS mounts on them. When the backup is performed, are these NFS mounts backed up as well?

Thanks,
Dan

Hey Dan,

Yes, you can configure snapshot-less file-level job for an agent, which should save files from NFS share.
Please review this discussion for additional information. Thanks!

Although agent performance might be far from ideal on a large set of small files, 90 hours and 0% is a bit too much. Please contact support team for investigation and post your case ID.

Thanks!

Just to clarify something about VBR U4 functionality - unless you use file-copy job or deploy Veeam Agent for Linux on VM, there is no other way to back up NFS shares that are mounted inside the VM.

It can - you need to select the snapshotless mode in the policy settings and specify the local NFS share mountpoint as the backup source (NOT a network path to a share). Thanks!

Yes, that is a known issue that will be addressed in future releases (big work is being done!)

Hello,

what about NFS share on a Windows VM?

Agent for Windows doesn't have the same settings option..

Well, in this case you should either mount the share onto some Linux machine that runs Linux agent, or install Veeam agent on the machine that runs the share.

Thanks!

Hi, I have a similar infrastructure so have been looking for a solution as well.

I have an WD Intelliflash that is shared out using NFS. These shares are mounted to a Linux VM. But I cannot back them up. Have tried the suggestions above and it just sits there and fails.

Is there any updates to this solution?

What would have been nice, is to use the Intelliflash plugin in Veeam to backup the NFS shares using the built in Snapshots. But it only does the VMDK files.

Cheers

Hi,

Kindly clarify what exactly fails - backup session, or mount procedure?

Thanks!

Hi

The job runs to the point of "Backing up Files /{mount point}"

The mount point only has 3.5Gb used.

Any ideas on what I should be looking at, to resolve this?

Thanks

BOUNCE!

Any ideas on how to get this working? I am in the UK, so the responses from Veeam take a while.

Hi,

It would help if you could provide the error message that you get.

Overall, if you have the share (or a snapshot from the share) mounted at /{mount point}, you can back up that mount point in snapshot-less mode only.
If that doesn't work, you should contact out support team directly and post your case ID in this thread.

Thanks!
