I'm trying to install the v9 Enterprise Manager on Server 2012R2 Core, but I'm running into an issue. When trying to select the license file, I get the following error:
Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {...} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 80040111 ClassFactory cannot supply requested class (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040111 (CLASS_E_CLASSNOTAVAILABLE)).
I'm guessing this means the license selection dialog is trying to spawn a window type not available in Core. I've read that prior versions of Enterprise Manager would work on Server Core, but this seems to be a show stopper.
Is there any way to bypass the key selection so the installer can proceed, or any other workaround? I can't even manually enter the path to my license file in the box...
With respect, that link does not specifically say that those OS'es require the GUI to install Enterprise Manager. I did finally find it in a footnote on the system requirements for Veeam B&R, near the top of this page: http://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/vsph ... ments.html
You cannot install Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager on a machine running Microsoft Windows Server Core
I'm wondering why there was a change made to this requirements, since it was previously possible:
The following Veeam components can run on Windows Server 2012 with GUI removed:
• Backup proxy
• Backup repository
• Enterprise Manager
• WAN accelerator
The Enterprise Manager is a prime candidate for the lower overhead and maintenance required by Server Core, since it is basically just running IIS and and SQL.
Is there any way to bypass the key selection so the installer can proceed, or any other workaround?
I have to warn you, that the approach described further has never been fully tested thus stability cannot be guaranteed on Core edition!
You can install Enterprise Manager via unattended install. Here is the sequence:
1. Install .NET 4.5.2
2. Install VeeamBackupCatalog64.msi located on Veeam ISO in "Catalog" folder
3. Install SQL Server 2012
4. Install IIS (see sys.req. for details)
5. Install EnterpriseManager/BackupWeb_x64.msi located on Veeam ISO
