One of my biggest challenges is to find the correct machine backup if a file or a folder needs to be restored: in most cases, the file or folder got deleted, the time when the deletion was done is completely unclear, and my task is to find the most recent backup where the file or folder still existed.
That's why I enabled guest file indexing for our file servers in Veeam Enterprise Manager. Now, I can successfully search for files (Files tab). Because that's a feature I'm not familiar with, and because I found no answers by looking around myself:
Is there a way to:
Search for folders?
Get some kind of calendar view for a file or folder, showing when they were backed up (backup history view)?
Show data of machine backups (backup time and date) that contain the file or folder?
1. No
2. Yes. While there isn’t a dedicated “calendar” view, the search result grid displays the “Restore point” date and the “Path,” showing all restore points and object locations within, where your search query matched.
3. Yes, the “Restore point” date mentioned above is what you’re looking for. By default, after selecting a machine, you’ll see the index view for the latest restore point. If you deselect it, the calendar will switch to “All restore points,” allowing you to perform a global search across all backups for the selected machine.
