All versions / Evolution : Backup from custom snapshot

Post by JuA »

Hi,

Is is possible to backup from a VMware snapshot created "manually" (not created by Veeam) ? If not possible, it would be a great/cool option :-)

Hi Julien,
I don`t think it`s possible because Veeam initiates the snapshot creation when the job is started.
Could you describe your use case? Why do you keep manually created snapshots by the way?
Thanks!

Hi,

The goal would be to hardly control the creation time of the backup.

Eg : The application people wants a consistency point at 18h30 (+/- some minutes) :
- A first job (not handled by veeam) creates the snapshot on demand. It can synchronously say to the batch that the snapshot was taken.
- Next, the batch (or the veeam scheduler) launch a backup job with settings saying to use the snapshot "XXXMYAPP *".

Even if for any reason the backup task occurs in 5 hours, we have an image at the requested time.

Julien

Hi Julien, how many VMs in your environment require such strictly scheduled consistency points?

Potentially all our DB (Postgresql) VMs. It's a lot of VMs.
