Hi guys.
I have this strange case as stated in the Subject :
VMware 6.5 cluster of 3 hosts and 10 VM`s
Virtual Veem BR as Proxy 9.5.0.1922
All 9 VM`s are using Hotadd mode
Problem:
Only one specific VM is processed in NBD mode ( full backup and Replication )
I have look any thing i could think of and no reasonable answer WHY ?
- there are other VM`s on the same host using Hotadd
- there is no Guest quiescense enabled for the Job
- it`s a VM version 9 but also an other VM is the same but using Hotadd
- it also have some USB devices ( USB HASP ) presented from the Host but othe VM also have the same on different host in the cluster using Hotadd
- no snapshots messing the backup .....
I`m lost here ........ any advice ?
Kind regards NikS

Re: All VM`s in cluster are using HotAdd only one is using NBD
Hi,
I just want to make sure that you've already checked if all prerequisites are met - have you seen this KB?
Also, if there are other proxies configured then it might be so that the Hot-Add proxy runs out of slots and the other proxy is used for that VM instead.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tips PTide
About the KB :
Requirements:
1. If the Veeam Proxy being used to process the source VM is on a VMFS 3 datastore it must be formatted with proper block size to be able to mount the largest virtual disk of the hot added VMs:
1MB block size – 256GB maximum file size
2MB block size – 512GB maximum file size
4MB block size – 1024GB maximum file size
8MB block size – 2048GB maximum file size
Checked - vmfs 6
Same configuration - other VM have 4TB vmdk -> hotadd
Problematin VM - > 650 GB vmdk
2. The Proxy being used to back up the VM must be a Virtual Machine on a host that is able to access the datastore where the source VM’s disks are stored
Checked - Yes
3. For vSphere 5.1 the maximum supported VMDK size is 1.98 TB
Checked - vSphere 6.5 here
4. For vSphere 5.5 and older the maximum supported VMDK size is 62 TB
Checked - vSphere 6.5 here and we have 4TB VM that is using Hotadd
5. HotAdd is a SCSI feature and does not work for IDE disks
Upps
BINGO
I was comparing both VM`s with the same config VM1 - hotadd and VM2 - nbd .......
Til 2 seconds ago i could even bet they are the same ....... but nop
VM1-hotadd
VM2-nbd
PTide - Thank You !
