Anyone else get their CBT counters reset after ESX security patches?
We just updated our ESX hosts to implement the latest batch of spectre/meltdown patches, and last night's backup runs on that cluster are showing as incremental but running like fulls - plenty of data is being passed at a good clip but it looks like 100% of the blocks are being backed up.
From what I see in docs, Veeam is querying VADP for CBT info and looking at VADP docs there is a way to reset CBT counters in that API, perhaps this is done as part of the patch or something?
On the drama scale this ranks as "annoyance" but we're wondering if anyone else experienced the same issue.

Hello,
did you already ask Veeam support (please post the case number for reference)? Just to make sure that your patches have anything to do with CBT resets. Patch and CBT reset could also be coincidence...
Best regards,
Hannes

Right, debug logs will make the situation more clear, as they will show what specific output CBT API query has returned to Veeam after you've installed patches: just a very large number of changed blocks, or a special value indicating that CBT data is invalid or reset (in which case Veeam will automatically failover to a "full scan" based incremental run). Thanks!

I'll open a ticket then, didn't think this warranted it but happy to help.

Looks like mine got reset too after the latest esx patches. I was wondering why the backup took forever.
