Hello,
I was wondering if there's a real interest to use application aware on a file server.
I understand that in a database environment, like SQL or Exchange, VSS will flush I/O and ensure a consistent state but I can't see the interest on a file server.
Do I miss something ?
Regards,
Sytha

Re: Application aware and file server
Hello,
Are you saying you're not interested in similarly flushing on-going I/O on the file server? But that would mean that backup will capture a disk state with some writes to files being incomplete, because some write buffers will still be in memory. Is this not a problem for you that some files will be inconsistent in backup?
Thanks!

Re: Application aware and file server
Hello,
i ain't saying anything. I'm just asking...
When you take a VMware Snapshot on a file Server, in my opinon, it will be consistent correct me if I'm wrong. So I was wondering if application aware is really needed.
That was my point.
Thanks!
Sylvain
