B&R v7 Patch4 vs. vCenter 6.0

Post by rasmusan »

Hello

I have a customer running vSphere 5.5 and Veeam B&R 7.0 patch 4. Customer has installed a new Veeam v9 setup where they are in the process of migrating their jobs to. However company has made an aquisition which includes some vSphere 6 hosts, so now customer has an urgent need for upgrading his vCenter server to 6.0, to include the 6.0 hosts from the aquisition.

Does anybody know whether this this is possible, and still use the B&R 7.0 patch4 to continue backing up the 5.5 hosts (but now via vCenter 6.0), or will we face issues with this?

This is of cause not a permanent solution, as the customer is already migrating his backup to Veeam B&R 9 solution

If those hosts are added to a backup console as standalone ones, I don't think there will be any issues with such scenario.

However, be aware that you're pretty much on your own here - as neither is the product version supported, nor has anyone tested this approach previously. The best way would be to update VB&R to version 9 prior to backing up this environment.

Thanks.

the hosts are added via vCenter to B&R - and will continue to be backed up using vCenter 6.0.

I know this is not officially supported, and this will also be just a very temporary setup as they are currently migrating their backup to v9, but was hoping for someone with experience with similar setup.

The VB&R v7 hasn't been tested against vSphere 6.0, so we cannot guarantee anything in this situation. Monitor the environment closely and update VB&R as soon as you encounter any problem. Thanks.
