Backing up Linux Guests - User Authentication Failed
Hi guys,
I'm getting user auth failed when trying to get our Linux Guests backed up.
I have looked through the KB article relating to the PasswordAuthentication value in SSHD and ensured this is set to "yes" but it still doesn't work.
I know the username and password are correct because I can putty to the guests.
Any idea on what could be causing the issues?

Re: Backing up Linux Guests - User Authentication Failed
Hi,
More things to check:
1. The server must have Perl installed
2. The root password should not contain certain symbols (such as space)
3. Update OpenSSH and OpenSSL to the latest versions on Linux VM
If nothing helps then please open a support case and provide them the debug logs.
Thank you!

What other symbols can the password not contain?

Re: Backing up Linux Guests - User Authentication Failed
Just to be clear - when you get the said error? While adding Linux server to a backup console or while backing it up as a Guest VM (Linux credentials in this case apply to credentials used to index the VM)? Thanks.

The error occurs when doing both. Backing it up as a guest as well as adding it to the console.

The best idea would be to open a ticket with our support team and let them confirm your environment. Thanks.
