Backup and backup copy disk size different.
Good day everyone.
I just started to change our replication jobs to backups jobs plus backup copy to a remote site. We started a few days ago and now I noticed that backup data size differs from main site than remote site.
For instances this is one of the jobs, reverse incremental for backup settings.
Local Backup:
- day one: 23.7 GB
- day two: 10.9 GB
- latest: 565.1 GB
Total: 599.7 GB
Remote backup copy:
- day one: 491.2 GB
- day two: 25.7 GB
- day two: 65.6 GB
- latest: 11.9 GB
Total: 594.4 GB
I checked on veeam console that last restore point has been copied from source to backup copy destination. It is ""normal/right" the difference? I tought both should be the same size.
Thanks in advance.

Josue, backup copy job does not simply copy backup files but rather synthetically creates restore points on target repository using data available in the source repository, copying the latest VM state during each synchronization interval. That's why size difference is expected.

Right. You can even have different schedules for the backup and backup copy jobs, each backup copy job restore point will contain only blocks that have changed since the previous restore point and correspond to the latest VM state available on the source.

[MERGED] size of the backup copy job
Hi all,
I have tried the backup copy job function. And I used the "sync now" to send the copy to the Service provider side( I have set the copy interval, but I don't want to wait).
I found that the backup files in local storage is slight different from the backup files(copy) in service provider side.
Why the size is different between them?

Re: size of the backup copy job
Hi Sam,
The backup copy job not just copying backup files, but copy VM data blocks from one or more backup files in the backup chain on the source backup repository.
So the difference in size is expected. Thanks!

Hi DGrinev, thx for your reply.
but the size of local backup is slightly greater than that of offsite backup copy.
Local backup:
full backup: 3916253 KB
first incremental: 34226 KB
second incremental: 34301 KB
offsite backup copy:
full backup copy: 3916233 KB
first incremental copy: 34207 KB
second incremental copy: 34282 KB

Re: Backup and backup copy disk size different.
For example, some of the data blocks have been marked for deletion, in this case the copy job will not move those blocks. Thanks!
