Backup Bandwidth Throttling to Veeam Cloud Connect Repo
Hi All,
Currently I am doing some testing on my own lab for backup to cloud repository, via backup copy job. I am trying to define bandwidth throttling to cloud. However, when I am doing so I am uncertain of the value for target IP to set for cloud ISP end ? I tried typing in 0.0.0.0 as the segment, but that doesnt allow me to proceed.
Understand from ISP end, they can also define the throttling on per subscription basis.
Appreciate your kind help with this guys BTW thanks in advance as well !
Regards,
Wen Jun

Re: Backup Bandwidth Throttling to Veeam Cloud Connect Repo
Hi Wen,
the Cloud Connect provider define the Veeam WAN accelerator themself.
If you add a Cloud Connect Repository and select it as a Backup Copy Job target, the Target WAN accelerator get´s automatically selected in the Job. You do NOT have to add it manually to the Backup Infrasturcture section.

Hi Andreas !
Thanks for your feedback, what I meant was, is it possible to throttle the backup bandwidth to cloud repository ?
At the moment I am not using WAN Accelerators for my backup copy jobs just yet.

Wen Jun.

ah sorry, I missed the whole point, sorry.
You can ask the Cloud Provider to set the throttling. I think there is not a reliable way to do this on the customer side as things can be changed one the cloud provider side.

Re: Backup Bandwidth Throttling to Veeam Cloud Connect Repo
Hi,
you do have a few options:
- at your side as a customer, you can create throttling rules and set the Ip addresses of your provider's cloud connect as the target subnet: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95
- as Andreas noted, you can ask your service provider to define a desired bandwidth to their Cloud Connect service they are offering to you: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95
Hope this helps.

Re: Backup Bandwidth Throttling to Veeam Cloud Connect Repo
Hi Dellock and Andreas,
Thank you for the feedback.
I am just curios for customer side bandwidth throttling, what are the values I should apply to the target IP segment range, as I am uncertain of the IP range the ISP end is using.
I am wondering if i were to use Source and Target IP range as the same, would that be applicable ? since my gateway resides on the same IP segment.
Regards,
Wen Jun.

You mean your gateway is in the same subnet as the provider's cloud gateways? this would mean you have a direct connection to them, so would you really need any throttling?

Anyway Network throttling works as well between two defined IPs.

Re: Backup Bandwidth Throttling to Veeam Cloud Connect Repo
Hi Dellock & Andreas,
Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I meant was . If I were to only define source subnet on premise for throttling. Can I use my target subnet as my on premise subnet as well ?
For example , when configuring throttling. My source subnet is 192.168.0.x and my target subnet 192.168.0.x. assuming it's a flat network on premise. Where my gateway for outbound traffic is 192.168.0.1.
Anyhow I will test this out myself and see if this works.
Will get back to you on my findings.
This is under the assumption that the customer want to throttle bandwidth on their end to ensure quality of service for network, and not from the cloud service provider end.
Regards,
Wen Jun.

This won't work for the scenario you're after. To apply throttling rules you have to specify two IP ranges: source one (on-premise), target (cloud gateway). 1:1 IP to IP rules should work on same subnet.

Hi Eremin,
But how would i know what is the Service Provider Cloud Cloud Gateway IP Address ?
Can i assume that it is the URL which is provided by the service provider ? along with the tenant credentials.
Hi Andreas,
I am yet to test that, I will see if that helps, the bandwidth throttling is to cater for QOS of internet bandwidth on premise during working hours.

nslookup if the url you got from them will help to get the IP address. Or just ask you cloud provider.

Re: Backup Bandwidth Throttling to Veeam Cloud Connect Repo
Hi Andreas,
Thanks ! I will do that. However for the part where i am defining range, if the IP is 1.2.3.4 for example, can I define it as such ? 1.2.3.4 - 1.2.3.4
Regards,
Wen Jun.

confirmed: "The range can include a single IP address."
