Backup configuration job with warning after upgrade to V12

Post by merku »

Hi,
after upgrade from v11 to last v12 my configuration backup job has this warning message:

07/03/2023 10:00:32 Warning Failed to connect to AWS plug-in: Failed to login to platform service: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 169.254.255.168:9402
07/03/2023 10:00:35 Warning Failed to connect to Microsoft Azure plug-in: Failed to login to platform service: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 169.254.255.168:20443

But I've not any AWS and Azure services on this server.
How I can solve this warning?

Thanks

Hello Mercurio

Please don't post log files in the forum. I shortened it to the relevant error messages.
If you are running v12 RTM (build 12.0.0.1402), please use the Day0 patch to upgrade to v12 GA (build 12.0.0.1420). This will solve the issue. In case you see the issue in v12 GA (build 12.0.0.1420), please open a support case and let us know the case number.

Solved, support asked me to uninstall the AWS and Azure plugins, which weren't used anyway and now the configuration DB backup doesn't show any strange warnings.
They were lightning fast....awesome, great job

@Mildur - sounds like a generic problem with these cloud plugins and configuration backups. Even the up-to-date plugins produce the same warning. (Azure/AWS warning are gone after removing the plugins).

Code: Select all

08.03.2023 10:01:23 Warning Failed to connect to Kasten K10 plug-in: Failed to login to platform service: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd:9404
08.03.2023 10:01:20 Warning Failed to connect to GCP plug-in: Failed to login to platform service: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd:9403
Never used GCP/K10 for anything.

Hello Doktornotor

I have the following plugin builds and I don't get this warnings:
- GCP plugin 12.0.4.907
- K10 plugin 12.0.0.103

Please check that their windows services are running. I only get the same warning as you when I stop the service.

Lol, OK. I have those services disabled, since - as said - they are not used for anything.

The default warning and alarm behavior around these cloud plugins seems very odd to me. I have recently opened a ticket about constant Veeam One errors triggered by nothing other than these plugins being unused, and the resolution in that case was to disable the alarms in Veeam One if I'm not using the plugins. And now I'm getting this same warning in the config backup where the resolution is uninstalling the plugins. These plugins are installed by default by Veeam, so why doesn't Veeam One and Veeam VBR handle unused plugins gracefully instead of requiring all this manual intervention just because of unused features? If we decide to use the features in the future, we now have to remember to undo these changes at that time.

How do we fix this on a few of our servers? Getting different ones on different servers.

1/9/2024 10:02:03 AM Warning Failed to connect to AWS plug-in: Failed to login to platform service: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 10.x.x.x:9402

1/9/2024 10:00:49 AM Warning Failed to connect to Microsoft Azure plug-in: Failed to login to platform service: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 10.x.x.x:20443

Hi John

Make sure that the plugins are installed and the plugin service is running.
If the services are running and you still get this error, please open a support case and let our support team investigate the logs.

Thanks Fabian. Any downside to uninstalling these pointless (in our situation) services?

These services all seem not to start after a reboot I realized today (despite being set to automatic start). Is this a known issue?

Hi John

Uninstalling those platform service plugins means, that you cannot integrate our additional products (Public Cloud backup appliances, RHV, Kasten K10, AHV, ...) with Veeam Backup & Replication. I just tested in my lab with the GCP plug-in. If you uninstall the plugin, the configuration backup job will be successful. No warning because the service is not reachable.

If you don't have those products, you can simply uninstall the integration plugin. Please note, plugins may be reinstalled when you update/upgrade your backup server with a new version.
