Backup Copy Job and File Backup Jobs

Post by M4Biz »

Hi.
Using Backup Copy Job I've succesfully transferred VM backup from production location to an external location on wich there is another (twin) ESXi host and Veeam Server machine used for testing purpose.
I'd like to try the same with a Backup Job that is a File Backup Job from shared file folders but I can't, because when I try to create the Backup Copy Job I can't see File Backup Job but only VM Backup Jobs.
Is there any way to transfer File Backup Job to another location (by means, i.e., an external ESB drive) ?
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
as for File (NAS) backup jobs you can configure the secondary repository within the job itself: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

Thanks

Hi Stefan.
Thanks for you reply.
May I use for this purpose, for some time, an USB , HDD drive?

We do support lots of media types (incl. HDD) as a repository so it’s hard to say yes or no on that question. The answer depends on what your RTO and backup availability requirements.
So yes technically you can use HDD.

For NAS Backups, USB Disk cannot be used (if configured as a rotated Disk Repository).
You can find the supported backup repository types on this page:

Hi Mildur.
I've created a new backup repository using a folder on the USB Hdd drive as a shared SMB folder and it seems to works.

Is your plan to rotate the usb harddrive?
Then I think your jobs will be failing. Veeam will not find the metadata present after rotating a disk on the smb share and you will get an error.

If you want to use a usb disk, which stays connected, you can configure the repo as a windows server with direct attached disk. Use the path to the folder on the harddrive as the backup repo path. But do not rotate the disk to another one.

The job was completed without errors.
The next step is try to use the USB drive as a Backup Repo on a different ESXi host and try to restore data.
After that I'll update this post.

Update.
Sharing a folder on the the USB Hdd drive and using it as a backup repository on the Veeam Server machine on the test network, is it possible to access to backups .
Anyway, there are no restore point and all folders are empty.
I think this is due to the fact that , for this test, I've connected the USB drive to the Production's network only for one day and, probably, there were not full backup in this time but only incremental.
