Backup Copy not obeying the restore points to keep
Hi,
I configured a Backup Copy Job, selected to keep 3 restore points, and scheduled the job to run every day.
The problem is that the Job is not obeying the restore point to keep and instead of maintaining only three restore points, it's generating one FULL and five incremental before deleting the last FULL backup of the chain.
This behavior is something that am I configuring incorrectly?
Regards,
Danilo

Also...
The source backup is configured as REVERSE INCREMENTAL.. Why the Backup Copy target is using forward forever incremental instead of the same format as the source backup job?

Re: Backup Copy not obeying the restore points to keep
Hi Danilo, backup copy job is always forward incremental regardless of the source backup job mode. As for your first question, any chance you have the 'Read from source..." check box enabled in the backup copy job settings?

Then, the backup copy mode works in forward incremental mode (more information can be found here). Thanks!

So, what happens if I clear this checkbox? the backup copy will retain only the restore points I configured (3) ?

Correct, it will maintain the specified number of restore points.

[MERGED] Backup Copy understanding
I'm trying to understand a Backup Copy job I have and how it works. I'm trying to create a copy job that has ~60 days of data.
Here are the settings I have on the copy job:
Restore Points to keep - 60 days
Keep the following restore points as full backups - checked
Weekly backup - 8
Read the entire restore point from source - checked
I do see the weekly fulls and daily incremental backups correctly but I have more than 60 days of backups. The second tier was setup 75 days ago and I am now holding 75 days of backup.
Can someone point to where I screwed up?

Hello and welcome to the community!
How often does the source job run?
You have set retention to keep 60 restore point, not days.

Shestakov,
Primary backups run once per day. After backup runs, the copy job is kicked off.
Restore points to keep is set to 60.

Re: Backup Copy not obeying the restore points to keep
Since you have checked "Read the entire restore point from source" backup copy works in forward incremental mode and it is expected to have more restore points than you have set to.

Well that explains it. Off to make changes to uncheck that.
Thanks for the assistance.
