Backup creates new chain after DR failover

Post by JRatATI »

Production: Main datacenter
DR: Disaster Recovery datacenter

Test:
-Build two test VMs in production.
-Modify .vmx files adding: uuid.action = "keep".
-Create backup job in production.
-Backup test VMs.
-Build test B&R server in DR.
-Load production B&R configuration database on DR B&R server.
-Backup repository is connected to production and test B&R server.
-Copy VMs to DR using SAN replication.
-Register test VMs into DR vCenter.
-Verify the test VMs in production and DR have the same uuid.bios and vc.uuid.
-Replace test VMs in backup job brought over to DR with the configuration database.
--This is necessary so the test VMs in DR replace the production test VMs in the DR backup job.
.
Run backup job expecting the backups to continue on the current backup chain.
They did not continue the chain, they started a new chain.
.
Does anyone know how I could have gotten the backup job to continue the existing backup chain?

Yes. You could use the native Veeam VM replication with built-in failover/failback
