backup directly from storage

Hi,
i've 2 esxi 5.0 with vcenter and dell storage.
i've install the veeam backup on physical server and connect it to the dell iSCSI storage.
i've heard that i can backup to VM's directly from the LUN.
my question is do i need to expose the LUN's to the physical veeam server?
how i can achieve this kind of backup?
