Backup from Storage Snapshots and VMware vSAN
Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5.0.1922
Data Domain DD9300 expanded configuration, Data Domain OS 6.1.2.10-603959
VxRail P470F
VMware ESXi 6.5.0
vSAN 6.6.1
Is there a technical document that explains how "Backup from Storage Snapshots" works in vSAN environment?
I couldn't find the VMware HCI solution in the list in https://www.veeam.com/backup-from-stora ... shots.html.

Re: Backup from Storage Snapshots and VMware vSAN
Hello,
backup from storage snapshots does not exist for vSAN as there is no "direct SAN" access for vSAN.
You can use NBD or Hot-Add / virtual appliance mode.
Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks for your response.
We do use "NBD" in our environment. I also notice that the "Enable backup from storage snapshots" is checked in all our Jobs. Is this checked by default? Disabling it will not have any effect on the backup job, right?

Re: Backup from Storage Snapshots and VMware vSAN
As Hannes said, it is enabled by default. So if you have the VM on a compatible storage system (vSAN is not compatible), then it will be used automatically.
