Backup job and Replication Job around same time

Post by myesko »

Hello, General question, We are going to be creating Replication Jobs of Vmware VMs over to another DataCenter. These VMs have regularly scheduled Backup Jobs as well.

Some of the Vms are large, 1 Tb to 20 TB, so i expect the first run of the Replication Job to take some time, wouldnt be surprised if it ran over 24 hours.

If the Replication Job is going to take a while, and then the VMs normal scheduled Backup Job kicks in, will it work? My assumption is yes, it just takes an additional snapshot, does the backup and cleans itself up.

But wanted to confirm, if they cant be run around the same time then I dont want to worry about my Backup Jobs not working, then maybe with some Vms we do the Replication Jobs starting on a Friday and postpone backups until the end of the weekend.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

You are right with 2 snapshots. It will work but should be avoided at all costs.
Also note that there are alternative approaches for your case, like Replica from Backup or Replica Seeding options.

/Cheers!
