Backup Job Skipping VM with RAW Disk Map
Hi,
I have configured backup for VMWare cluster which include 30 VMs out of that I have 4 VMs which have RAW disk, when backup runs it takes only backup of 26 VMs and skip 4 VMs which have RAW disk mapping. I know RAW disk backup is not supported. But, backup job should take backup for OS disk which is not RAW mapping disk. Also, it's not showing any error message during backup. I have not configured any exclusion also.
Do I need to enable specific parameter for RAW disk mapping VMs backup?
I am running VBR 9.5U1 and vCenter 6.5.
Thanks,
Daxesh

Re: Backup Job Skipping VM with RAW Disk Map
Hi Daxesh,
There is no need to enable any specific parameters since Veeam B&R will automatically skip those pRDM’s.
However, supported types of disks should be backed up normally.
Also, how did you see that the whole VMs has been skipped?
Thanks!

Hi Dmitry,
Thanks for reply.
I had checked thru backup job report. Skipped VMs are not in backup VM report.
Thanks,
Daxesh

Which report was that, Veeam ONE or built-in backup? Also, please go to Restore Entire VM wizard and assure if there are "missing" VMs in the list.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hi,
It's not showing on both Veeam ONE and Built-in Backup report. Also, not in Restore Entire VM wizard.
Thanks,
Daxesh

Daxesh,
OS Disk type you have mentioned is regular VM virtual disk?
If yes, then kindly contact our support team as this is unexpected behavior of the job.

Hi Dmitry,
As per Veeam support representative, Veeam is not able to take backup of OS disk. Because VMWare is not able to create snapshot of VM.
Support ID# 02055805.
Thanks,
Daxesh
