Backup of VM after VM has been restored

Post by cffit »

I do full backups on the weekends and incremental on the weekdays. If on a Tuesday, I do a full restore of a VM (from a week ago), will the Tuesday night backup of this VM create a full backup file or an incremental backup file? I'm not sure if VEEAM sees it as a new VM or if it knows about it and can somehow do an incremental.

I restored it to a different datastore if that makes any difference. The reason I ask is because if it creates a full backup, that messes up my backup to tape and in that case I'll remove the backup and re-add it on the weekend when the other full backups are done.

It will be a full backup, as every time a VM is restored (registered in the virtual infrastructure), it receives a new moref ID, which makes it new VM for your Veeam backup and for the vCenter server.

Thanks. So in that case I'm best to remove the VM from the backup job and re-add it the day of the weekly full backup is to take place correct?
