You cannot configure backup proxies in Veeam Backup Free Edition, except the default one (installed as a part of Veeam Backup Free installation). For optimal Quick Migration performance, you should install Veeam Backup Free on a VM running on the same host where the migrated VM resides.

Thank you.
"same host where migrated VM resides" -- so the destination host? Or the same host as the to be migrated VPN (source host)?
On a related note, assuming the latter, does a proxy at the destination server help at all, or is the performance of the local (built in proxy) -> direct to destination ESXI host generally the same as if their was a destination proxy next to the destination esxi host?

I meant source host, indeed, so it should be "same host where VM to be migrated resides", sorry for confusion.johndoe123123 wrote:"same host where migrated VM resides" -- so the destination host? Or the same host as the to be migrated VPN (source host)?
In case where there's a proxy on the target host, hotadd mode can be used to populate target datastore with replica VM data, which is typically much faster than using network mode (i.e. writing through the host's network stack over management network directly from the source proxy).johndoe123123 wrote:On a related note, assuming the latter, does a proxy at the destination server help at all, or is the performance of the local (built in proxy) -> direct to destination ESXI host generally the same as if their was a destination proxy next to the destination esxi host?
