Backup question

Post by ashman70 »

This may be a silly question, but what happens if you are doing a full backup on a VM and it reboots at some point during the backup? Shouldn't that interrupt the backup job? I've been running a full backup on an Exchange vm since yesterday, its been running for 20hrs but it rebooted 13 hrs ago and the backup is still going, no interruptions.....Should I be concerned?

I think I can answer my own question, since the backup is using a snapshot, it doesn't matter that the vm rebooted. However it rebooted because of windows updates, so what happens to those updates? Will they not be included in the backup? So if I had to restore the VM from this backup, the updates would not be there, correct?

The backup will contain VM state as of the time the VM snapshot was created.
