Backup Repository configuration: Load control
Hi,
How do you set the proper number of concurrent tasks in the configuration of the backup repository. 4 is the default number but my backups are pretty slow even with SAN direct access and internal drives as my backup repository...
Thank you,
Eric

Re: Backup Repository configuration: Load control
The first step would be to identify the slowest part of your infrastructure. What component is typically identified as a major bottleneck (full bottleneck statistics would be useful)? Additional information about your deployment would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: Backup Repository configuration: Load control
Depends on the job
Ex:
Job1: 27 VMs / Processed data: 3.4 TB / Processing rate: 12 MB/S
Bottleneck: Network (Source 48% / Proxy: 5% / Network: 50% / Target: 48%)
Job2: 21 VMs / Processed data: 890 GB / Processing rate 23 MB /s
Bottleneck: Source
The Target is a HP Disk Array (36 To in Raid 6) connected to the Veeam server with a Smart Array P431.
Thanks.

Re: Backup Repository configuration: Load control
Since it's a direct attached array, the "network" bottleneck actually is just the source and target datamover talking inside the same Veeam server.
Seems like source and target are more probable bottleneck, but are these jobs running at the same time? Do you have a job running alone so to see the pure performance without the concurrency in place?

Re: Backup Repository configuration: Load control
Unfortunately, I have so many VMs to backup every night that I'm trying to parallelize jobs as much as I can...If I limit the number of concurrent tasks/backups, I may improve the processing rate but that won't reduce my backup window...

Eric, what Veeam B&R version are you at? v8 latest update?
