Backup Repository to VM 2012R2 HP P2000 G3 SAS

Post by wayne7215 » Jan 12, 2018 1:23 pm

Hi

We have a new 3PAR Storage implemented a few months ago as our productive vSphere storage. Since then the old HP P2000 G3 Storage is idle and we would like to use it now as a first Veeam Backup Repository before we copy the backups to our main Backup Repository over LAN. The P2000 is connected by SAS controllers to the 2 ESXi 6.5 hosts and has already 20 TB provided to the ESXi hosts, but of course it's empty now.

Our new Veeam Proxy server is a VM with Server 2012 R2 and now we would like to use this VM as a Backup Repository, but I have no idea how to map the Win2012 to the P2000 which is connected through the ESXi hosts. What is the best way to provide the Server 2012 R2 OS the 20 TB of the P2000 G3 SAS storage to use it as a Backup Repository?

Thx

Hi,

You can establish direct iSCSI connection to the storage, that's the recommended approach.
Also review existing discussion as it contains useful information about the iSCSI connectivity with HP storage.

Hi DGrinev

How shall I establish an iSCSI connection when the storage is connected by SAS Controllers to the ESXi hosts?

Hi,

Sorry for delayed answer.
I've seen from the P2000 G3 specification, there are iSCSI ports, so I thought you can use them in parallel with the SAS connection. Thanks!

You have to map de LUN as RDM (raw device mapping).

Yeah, but how??
