Hi,
please explain me, I have backup copy job that have other retention set (shorter time) that source backup job, so I have set 5 file retention +1 weekly on sunday.
But the results are that veeam keep first full backup from sunday, then it keep six incremental files from monday to saturday, and then create again full on sunday.
So this is because that I confgured in wrond day weekly full backup it should be on configured on saturday, then I would have 6 restore points (full-saturday + 5 from monday to friday)?

Re: Backup retention
Once you enable the GFS retention, the job switches from the forever-forward incremental retention policy to the forward incremental one - the increments are no longer merged to the full backup file and the retention policy is applied when the specified number of restore points is reached from the latest full backup.
It might be worth reviewing the corresponding sections of the User Guide and seeing whether there are questions left afterward.
Thanks!

Re: Backup retention
Hello, Welcome to the Veeam Forum.
Veeam provides two options for the backup copy GFS retention as follows:
Synthetic Full Method: With this method, during the GFS backup copy creation, Veeam Backup & Replication does not copy data from the source backup repository but synthesizes full backups from backup files that are already stored in the target backup repository. This approach helps to reduce load on the network and production environment, this option will need 6 restore options to create the synthetic full backup end of the week.- This is the default option.
Active Full Method: With this method, Veeam Backup & Replication copies data for archive full backups from the source backup repository. This method decreases load on the target repository but increases load on the network and production environment. - This option will read the data from source repository to create the full backup, if you select this option you will not need the 6 restore points.
