Backup/Retention Topology Help
Dear Fellow Veeamers,
I am currently attempting to setup a backup topology/layout and would love to get some input as to how this could best be achieved.
Proposed Backup Retention/Layout
1. Daily Backups of VM Resource Groups to Local SAN at DC3 and will Store 30 days worth of Backups for quick recovery
2. DC1 (connected via a 1Gb link and is visible to DC3 Veeam server) will Store Monthly Backups (first will be full and then rest will be incremental – 1 Full Backup, 11 Incremental)
3. DC1 Shelf 2 – will store yearly backups (this will be a one-off full backup)
How could I best achieve the above and could it be achieved with 1 Job per Resource Group (per customer) with copy jobs, etc.
Thanks in Advance!!
Iain

Re: Backup/Retention Topology Help
Hello Iain and welcome to the community!
So what you need is 1 backup job and 2 backup copy jobs with GFS retention.
Thanks!
I would recommend to have 12 full backups instead, first because number of changed blocks can be significant what makes increment as big as full backup, second because full backups don`t depend on each other.Store Monthly Backups (first will be full and then rest will be incremental – 1 Full Backup, 11 Incremental)
So what you need is 1 backup job and 2 backup copy jobs with GFS retention.
Thanks!

Hey Shestakov!
Thanks for the info. Could you possibly explain the backup copy settings for that type of job?

Re: Backup/Retention Topology Help
Create two backup copy jobs. Set 30 days as sync/copy interval for them. Set 2 as simple retention (restore points to keep). Enable GFS retention settings (keep the following restore points for archival purposes). Set 12 monthly points for the first job, and 1 yearly point for the second job.
