Hi,
We are reviewing our backup storage and process. Currently we are using a NAS as a backup device and an other program to do the tape backups.
It works but it isn't fast. about 60MB/s and often 12 - 20 MB/s
I'm planning to migrate to a different setup:
RX740d, SSD for OS and 8 drives of NL-SAS 7.2 RPM as Veeam storage.
And the RX740d is connected with fiber to the SAN so the that rx740 can mount the files via fiber instead of using the network.
Then use backup-copy to copy the veeam files to the old nas as extra backup.
Also a tapelibrary will be connected to the Server to automaticly backup the veeam files to tape for offline storage.
Are there any comments to this setup or reason to believe this isn't going to work?
Thanks

Re: Backup Storage / Plan improvement
Hi John, this is definitely a proper plan that should provide you a good backup performance gain.

Re: Backup Storage / Plan improvement
Make sure that if you are sending data from a volume mounted via fiber channel (or iSCSI) to a tape library that is also on fiber channel (or iSCSI) that you have a separate HBA for tape traffic in your server.
Using the same HBA for both the disk and tape can cause some strange issues.
If all of your backups are on local disk, then you shouldn't have a problem using whatever method to go to tape.
