Our environement:
- vSphere v7 Hosts
- NetApp OnTap v9.1.1
- One NFSv4.1 SVM with three NFS volumes /exports all configured the same
- Veeam v11
- Windows Server 2019 proxy
Our problem:
Only the VMs on one of the NFS volumes are backed up via direct NFS. VMs on the other two NFS volumes are backed up via hotadd, which is not ideal. Both backups use the same proxy and backup from the same NFS SVM. Configuration is exactly the same.
Veeam support (case 05164112) told me that i have to test mount the volume on the windows backup proxy which was working after i enabled NFSv3 on the SVM, as native windows NFS client does not support NFSv4.1. Therefor this test doesn't really makes sense to me, as it seems that veeam has it's own NFS components which are able to handle NFSv4.1. However, the backup in question still uses hotadd instead of NFS, even after enabling NFSv3.
Anyone had the same problem with a similar constellation?

Re: Backup using hotadd instead of direct NFS
Hello,
just to be sure, you are talking about directNFS, not Backup from Storage Snapshot with NFS?
Also, what Veeam license is used?
Thanks

Please review the direct NFS access limitations and continue working with the support engineer if nothing applies to your setup.

Re: Backup using hotadd instead of direct NFS
I'm talking bout directNFS. We can't use Storage Snapshots because we utilize Flexgroups, which aren't yet supported for Storage Snapshot processing by veeam.
We use universal license / Enterprise Plus.
I have just read that others have similar problems and got rid of it by selecting specific datastores in the proxy settings. As mentioned, directNFS is working perfectly for another datastore on the same storage. So that seems to be a problem of veeam processing multiple datastores on a single storage. I have a case open since days and already submitted several logs. 05164112

Re: Backup using hotadd instead of direct NFS
Hi again,
thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Support for sure is the right way to go here and I can see in the ticket they are already looking into it.
I will also check on my side and provide an update once there is one.
Thanks
