Backup VMs with shared disks
Hi
We have a cluster that have around 30 VMs that all VMs have 1 disk that is a shared disk(some independent persistence disks, others are pRDM disks), and this type of disks is not possible to snapshot.
My questions is, is there any alternative in Veeam to backup this?? Copy or something like that?
Any ideas will be welcome
Thank You

Re: Backup VMs with shared disks
Hello,
You can always change pRDMs to vRDMs, this will allow you to back these disks up, another way would be to use "old school" backup method with in-guest agents.
Thanks!

Hi Vitaliy,
Thank you for your reply.
When that is not a great option(but maybe the only), since we are moving from Symantec to Veeam and I cannot propose to have Symantec only to backup that cluster, after I propose to move to Veeam.
I was trying to find a solution with Veeam.
Thank You

Well...switching to vRDMs seems to be a common practice among our existing customers, as to independent disks then I guess you can power your VMs down and then use File copy jobs to backup these disks.

Hi Vitaliy,
Changing to vRDM the VM will have direct link to Storage, this will reduce the performance on the read/write yes??
Regarding file copy, well that was the only option I was thinking.
Thank You

I haven't heard anything about performance degradation after switching from pRDM to vRDM disks, so it should be fine.
