Backups and snapshots

Post by Symjett »

Hi

Whenever a backup is created for a VM that resides in VMware, does VMware create a VM snapshot at the same time? Is there always a snapshot that is related to their corresponding backup file?

And if I would delete a snapshot for a VM without deleting the backup file for Veeam, will that backup file be unusable?

Best regards, Simon

Hi. Veeam creates a VM snapshot in the beginning of backup, and deletes it as soon as backup was taken. So, this snapshot exists only for a few minutes. Thanks!
