Backward full VM restore

Post by davide.depaoli »

Hello,
for testing purposes I should restore a vm created on vsphere 8 (vm hw version 21) on my 6.7.3 infrastructure.
Obviously this is not possible because the hw version is not supported.

**************************
Restore job failed Error: VM hardware version 21 is not supported by destination host (version 6.7.3)
**************************

Does anyone know if there is any way or some trick to force backward compatibility ?

Thanks in advance
Best regards
Davide

Hi Davide

Restore the VM disk files (or export them) from your backup to the target vSphere Datastore.
Then create a new VM and attach the restored disks.

hI mildur,
your solution is correct but unfortunately not feasible for me, because the original vm (hw 21) is on my customer infrastructure.
I nedd to restore it to my office. the only thing I have is a VeeamZip of the vm.
I got around the problem cloning a vc, modified vmx file on the clone with hw version 15 (which is compatible with my vsphere). Made a new Veeamzip and transfer this to my office.

thank you

Hi,
solved restoring from veeamzip file vmdk and vmx files. Attached to new empty VM, reconfigured boot mode to EFI and it worked.

thanks
