Bug Report / Feature Request - VMware and Tags

Post by thomas_brun » 1 person likes this post

Hello everyone

I did not find a suitable place for a bug report, potential bug report or feature request, so sorry if this is the wrong place for that.

We had a lot of backup jobs which failed with the message "Error: One or more errors occured". After some investigation I found out that someone removed
a VMware tag, which was added in every job as exclusion.

This is not really a bug, but it would be nice to have a "Tag xy not found" message instead of the one mentioned above, so maybe it is a feature request? You decide.

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for sharing the details of your investigation and the resolution you identified.

I agree a better error would be great, but I'd actually like you to open a Support Case if possible and share logs from one of the affected jobs that was resolved by the tag resolution failure for the excluded tags; it seems a bit off to me that this was a breaking error, and just would like Support to get a deeper look in the logs and confirm a bit more on what was going on.

Please open a case and include logs from one of the affected jobs (please note the date of one of the failures that you suspect was related to the tag resolution), and please share the case number here.

Crystal clear on the logging part, I just think there's a bit more to delve into here as I tested quick and got a much different error closer to what I was expecting:

17:17:23 Tag DD-Test-tag is unavailable, VMs residing on it will be skipped from processing

Job handled it gracefully as I was thinking it should, so I just suspect there might be a bit more that was happening even if your resolution steps did assist.
