Bug with Netapp snapshots and templates?

Veeam B&R gives the following error on VMware templates:

Processing <VM name> Error: VM <VM name> does not meet rhe requirements for storage snapshot based jobs.

converting the template to an actual VM will resolve the error.
it does not seem to have anything to do with the KB2078.
as a workaround, I just excluded the template from the backup job for now.

Veeam should just ignore templates on Netapp volumes or handle them as standard offlined VMs.

Dominic, what Veeam B&R version are you at (including build number)? This behavior doesn't look expected.

it's v9 update 1.
I don't have access to the install right now, so I can't tell the build number.
hopefully I will be able to go to update 2 next week.

Are you probably talking about snapshot-only jobs?

yes, this was a snapshot-only job.

In this case the behavior looks valid, since there's no sense in creating storage snapshot for templates as they cannot be restored from it. It is only the task for the template that fails, other VMs in the job will be processed fine. And you will not see this failure in the job that creates Veeam B&R backup (not a snapshot-only one), since templates are backed up via other transport modes and can then be restored.
