Cannot remove proxy
Hello together
Perhaps i'm blind or dumb. But at a customer i cannot remove an existing proxy. A message tells me that this proxy is used in a certain replication job.
About the infrastructure:
- 4 ESXi hosts (ESXi 5.5 U3b)
- shared NetApp storage
- Veeam Backup & Replication 9 Update 1
- physical Veeam backup server (Server 2012 R2)
- two virtual Veeam proxies (Server 2008 R2)
First i disabled the proxy which i wanted to remove. Then i tried to remove it. It did not work. I also restarted the virtual machine, and then restarted all Veeam services, but nothing worked. Still unable to remove the proxy.
I checked all the existing jobs (backup job, backup copy, replication). The proxy which i want to remove is NOT used in any of these jobs. The proxy is listed as available proxy, but it's actually not marked with the checkbox for using this proxy in the job.
What makes me curious is the fact that, even if the proxy is disabled, it is visible in the list of proxies within a job, and i can mark it to use within this job...
What can i do to remove this proxy?

What happens if you try to remove via PS?
Thanks.

Re: Cannot remove proxy
This is probably a long shot but have you checked "guest Interaction Proxy" settings as well?

Re: Cannot remove proxy
Hi,
Yes, i checked this setting also. The proxy is definitively no more in use in any of the jobs...
I'm already preparing the logs for support, will come back with the support case number.

Re: Cannot remove proxy
Thank you @PTide for leading me to the answer!
I ran into this problem today while trying to decommission a couple of proxy servers.
In my case, the replication jobs in question are being sourced from the backup vs. production so there is no source guest interaction proxy setting. That said, I believe these jobs at one point in their life did source from production vs. backup, so it’s like the setting was still hidden there in the background even though it wasn’t being used.
The resolution for me:
1. Edit the replication job. On the Virtual Machines tab select Sources and change it from “From backup files” to “From production”. *Take note of the selected data store prior to making the change to you can reset it after the fix.
2. Now hit Next until you get to the Data Transfer tab and change the source proxy accordingly (un-selecting the proxy you are trying to remove at the least)
3. After updating the source proxy go back to the Virtual machines tab and change the sources back to From backup files.
4. Next, Next, Next through all the steps (all original job settings should be saved/pre-populated)
5. Finish / save the job
6. You should now be able to remove the proxy.
