Changing host VM and datastore

Post by sandroalves »

Hi,

in my tests when I select a linked VM in a vCenter, when it is moved to other hosts the backup routine continues to function normally.

However, when I moved the datastore VM I noticed that it failed, so it was necessary to remove it from the JOB and add it again.

I also noticed that duplicated the VM of the repository (Disk).

Is that so?

Thanks.

If you are moving within vCenter, no matter compute or storage, virtual machine MoRefID shall not change.
If you are moving between standalone ESXi hosts, MoRefID change is expected - VM is treated as new.
Just changing the storage(with no compute change) shall not trigger MoRefID change.
Check out this post on different scenarios when MoRefID change happens - if VMware thinks its a new VM, Veeam will have to treat it as a new VM as well.

/Cheers!
