Changing job on Dell DataDomain to immutable DataDomain

Post by kristofpoppe »

A customer had a Dell EMC DD which is around 90% full.
Currently immutability is not enabled on the box.
A current per VM backup job runs with individual vbm files.

Is it possible to create an immutable mtree and just move machine per machine to this immutable location with the retention of the existing chain ?

Or do we have to play 'tetris' on such a full box and remove one VM and recreate a new chain towards the immutable zone ?

Hi Kristof, you use the move functionality to migrate to a bigger store with immutability enabled. Please note that in this case only active backup chains (full + subsequent increments) will be marked immutable upon the first incremental job run after that, all 'closed' chains will stay not immutable.

You can also enable immutability on the existing DD store with the same effect.
