Changing HPE StoreOnce Catalyst Store IP address

Post by romulanvox »

I have a customer with Veeam (v12.1) configured to backup vSphere VMs to a HPE StoreOnce 5260's Catalyst Stores (over 10GbE ethernet). The Catalyst Stores are being referenced through the StoreOnce's dedicated backup subnet.

Due to a revamp in the dedicated backup subnet, I need to change the backup subnet IP address used by the Veeam backup server to reference the Catalyst Stores. I understand that there's no way to actually change a Catalyst Stores' IP address in Veeam, and I have to configure new Catalyst Stores using the new backup IP but pointing to the same Catalyst Stores.

I've tried this approach but when I rescan the new Catalyst Stores which contains the original set of Veeam backup files, I end up with two identical sets of Veeam backups but each set refers to a StoreOnce Catalyst repository of different backup IP address (old backup IP and new backup IP).

The set of identical Veeam backups from the *NEW* Catalyst Stores appears under Disk -> Imported. Has anyone made such IP changes on a HPE StoreOnce before? If you have, what was the best way to deal the problem that I've encountered?

The current Veeam backup jobs have been running for more than a year with long term monthly and yearly backups. I need ensure that after changing the Catalyst Stores' backup IP addresses, all the current Veeam backup jobs are able to reference their existing backup chains' repo location using the new StoreOnce backup IP, while maintaining full knowledge of the all the backup chains (up to the very latest forward incremental).

I would open a support ticket and ask them if we can change the IP address in our database.

As Andreas already mentioned opening a ticket is a good idea here as via the forum we can't check all dependencies for this change.
What you can try (but please test first with some test data and jobs):
Stop and disable backup jobs
Remove backup repository rom configuration
Change IP address of the StoreOnce
Connect it as a new repository
Change target repository in the backup jobs to the new one Rescan
map backup

As said there are some additional dependencies and question like:
Is it just a backup to the StoreOnce repository or maybe BackupCopy or CatalytCopy target?

Thanks

That's a good suggestion. I know certain config parameters like the hostname of the MSSQL instance is stored as a config item in a config file. So it's entirely possible that the StoreOnce IP is stored in a similar fashion or perhaps somewhere inside the config database.

The StoreOnce is now acting solely as a repo for the VBR's local backups.
