Hi,
I encountered some strange behaviour when restoring a disk to another VM. The goal was to restore two 4TB disks from an old Win 2008 R2 VM to a Win 2022 VM.
The restore process runs without any errors or warnings, but when I set the disks online, I receive a message saying that I need to run chkdsk on both disks.
I ran chkdsk on the 2008 R2 VM and it said that both file systems were fine.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and solved it? If so, how?
Thank you for reading this post.
Regards,

Re: chkdsk needed after disk restore to another VM
Hi Quentin, welcome to the forums.
I think that very likely you're experiencing the same issue from this KB but with a slightly different presentation. While the KB discusses the Windows version for the backed up guest and the mount server, effectively you're doing the same thing with the disk restores, and it's about Windows detection of the attached disks.
So please allow the chkdsk to complete, in this case it will be unavoidable. Restores from newer Windows versions will not encounter this issue.

Hi David,
Thank you for your answer. I saw this KB but I thought it wouldn't apply to my configuration.
chkdsk has complete without errors.
