Clearing unwanted VEEAM 5.0 files

Post by 1-0-1 »

I noticed that several jobs in VEEAM B&R 5.0 where not consolidating the VIB during the synthetic full runs to VBK. Obviously am i starting to run out of diskspace quickly and have scheduled a manual full backup and after that I want to get rid of the incremental older than the full synthetic backup file. My question though is how to I delete the VIB files after today full synthetic run. Can I just delete them from a file perspective or is there a way to delete this so the restore points do not show up in VEEAM?

Bernd, you can safely delete unneeded VIB files using any file manager. Though it is not quite clear how do you know that VIB files are not getting consolidated into the full VBK? Generally VIBs are not deleted after creating a synthetic full but are handled according to your retention policy settings. Thanks.

Well I have my retention period set 10 points and I am sitting with 64-71 points. How would I know which VIB to delete because if I have not had a full backup since the initial job run it will kill all the backups since the incremental chain is broken.

What are your job settings (backup mode), and when do you have synthetic full scheduled to run? How often is the job running?

Make sure you don't have full backup scheduled for the day when the job itself is not scheduled to run. In this case, full backup will never be happening, resulting in endless chain of incremental backups.

My backup mode is incremental and full synthetic to run on Friday and Saturday. The Friday and Saturday option I enabled because the job is part of a chain and something it only starts on Saturday.

Is there a chance that due to the chain, the job does not start on Saturday either? You can check the number of VBK files you have in the repository. There should be more than one VBK at any given time for the daily job with weekly synthetic full and 10 retention points.
