Converting Backup Server from RAID0 to RAID6

Post by razor2refs »

I want to convert the backup server that has VBR (version 12.0.0.1420) installed from RAID0 to RAID6. Most likely, I have to rebuild the RAID config. The VBR config backup and all the backups are saved daily to Backblaze cloud. Once I rebuild the the RAID6 volume, can I just restore the config backup and continue from that? The VBR is installed on C drive so that wouldn't have to be reinstalled. The D drive is RAID0 ReFS volume that stores the Backup, ProgramData and VBRCatalog. That drive would be wiped out.

Hi razor2refs,

For the most part correct; just ensure you have a Configuration Backup ready to go "just in case", and then make your changes. As I get it, you're not reinstalling the OS volume where Veeam Backup and Replication is installed, so you shouldn't even need the Configuration Restore step, but it's not a bad idea to make sure you have a fresh one before making changes.

For the catalog, just keep a copy of it and you can use the steps in this KB article to shuffle the VBRCatalog around while you rebuild the RAID. Then just add the new volume as a repository, and you should be good to go.

So I need to move The VBRCatalog from the drive that will be wiped to C drive using instructions from https://www.veeam.com/kb1453 ?

Hi razor2refs,

yes, I would temporarily move the VBRCatalog here while you rebuild the RAID, then just move it back when you're done.
