Copy backup job
Good morning
I have a client who wants to make a second copy of his backup.
Currently my client makes forward incremental backup, that is, it makes daily incremental backups and one full full every 7 days.
Veeam copy backup jobs act by copying the incremental changes that occur in the primary backup at each copy interval.
But when my client makes a full in its main backup chain, how does the veeam copy job act? Does it copy the full integer or keep making incremental copy?

Re: Copy backup job
Good morning Alvaro, welcome to the community!
In the backup copy job settings by default Forever forward incremental backup method is used. That means you will get another increment.
Thanks!

Re: Copy backup job
Backup copy job is forever incremental unless you enable GFS retention and enable the 'Read from source...' check box.

Re: Copy backup job
But, if the new restore point in the primary backup is a full (not an incremental), the copy job continues to perform an incremental. That is, it accesses the full primary backup and only copies blocks incrementally, and does not make the full full copy.
Example (retention 4)
Backup primary: Full, incremental 1, incremental 2, incremental 3, Full, incremental 1, incremental 2, incremental 3....
Copy backup: Full, incremental 1, incremental 2, incremental 3, incremental 4, incremental 5....
Example (retention 4)
Backup primary: Full, incremental 1, incremental 2, incremental 3, Full, incremental 1, incremental 2, incremental 3....
Copy backup: Full, incremental 1, incremental 2, incremental 3, incremental 4, incremental 5....

Re: Copy backup job
That's correct.
The backup copy job does not copy backup files. It creates an independent backup chain by the data blocks transferred from the source repository.
Thanks!
