Copy transaction log mode continuously?

Post by zxzxzxzxzx »

Is it possible to back up a sql servers transaction logs continuously but in copy only mode? Right now our sql admin backs up using native sql tools to our EMC data domain every 30 min. It looks grayed out.We are looking to get these in veeam as well and to copy them offsite.

Unfortunately when we set up a fileshare from the Data domain and backup the files from it, we are limited by our 500gb file share instance license.

I suppose we could do a copy only backup on the sql server, but the dba wants it natively.

Any other ways around this?

Hello Ryan,

Can you please elaborate on the setup? Is that SQL server on the physical or virtual machine? If yes, have you tried to use vm backup or agent backup with transaction log backup being integrated into backup job? Thank you!

Sure! The SQL server is a VM in VMware. Would the agent still work in this case? And will the agent allow continuous t-log backup?

If that's a VM you can use vm backup job with transaction log backup enabled, no need to use agent or nas backup jobs. Thanks!
