Data Domain backup repository usage in Veeam
Hi
We are in the process of adding a Data Domain as a backup target and have run one backup job at the moment. The repository in Veeam shows that 136GB has been used yet the Data Domain shows that 49.2 GB has been used. Why the discrepancy? I have rescanned the storage in Veeam and the usage shows the same. This will be an issue at some point as Veeam will see that the repository has no free space.
DD version 7.7.4.0-1017976
Anyone else seen this issue?
Thanks

Re: Data Domain backup repository usage in Veeam
This is because the DataDomain is a deduplication storage appliance. Don't worry this is by design and natural.
I have a client that holds 2PB on 44TB DD and still has free space.

Correct, Veeam shows the data amount written to the device. While the device will show data usage after their own storage deduplication.

So how will Veeam deal with this when it thinks the storage is full yet at the backend there if sufficient capacity or is that not how it will work? Thanks

Re: Data Domain backup repository usage in Veeam
Veeam uses the repository free space not the total used by Veeam
If you go into the backup infrastructure view > Backup Repositories
you will see your repository reporting the correct free space for itself.
e.g. mine shows 44.TB Capacity
4TB Free
2PB Used
