Deduplication and Compression - VEEAM B&R 9.5

Post by sosowin »

VEEAM B&R 9.5.0.1922
Data Domain DD9300 expanded configuration, Data Domain OS 6.1.2.10-603959 with DDBoost
VMware ESXi 6.5.0
vSAN 6.6.1

How does VEEAM perform backup from a vSAN Datastore, where deduplication and compression are enabled at the disk group level?
Does it inflate the VMDK in order to backup and process them with DDBoost and transfer to Data Domain for deduplication?

Hi Solomon, to be honest, we haven't tried that internally, but my guess is that it should work totally transparent for Veeam B&R, meaning that it just requests the data blocks from the datastore as if it is not deduped/compressed, so blocks are rehydrated prior to be sent to Veeam B&R proxy.
