Deleting restore points without running a backup?
I have an old backup job that has the following restore points:
.vib 4/1/21
.vib 1/1/21
.vib 10/1/21
.vib 7/1/21
.vbk 4/1/21
How do I get the oldest restore point to delete but have the job roll up into itself so I still have a valid chain to restore from?

That is not possible.
You can export the restore points you need to a standalone vbk. But it‘s not possible to manually transform a vib into a new full for that day.

Ugh, @Mildur, that's really unfortunate. Hard to believe it can't be forced do to that on its own.

If it would be a forever forward chain, it would be possible to shorten the retention policy and run a backup.
But with normal Forward incremental, that‘s not possible.

Re: Deleting restore points without running a backup?
The job is a FFI but we had to set up a new job (vCD integrated pointing to the vApp). I would like for the existing chain to be able to shrink without trying to run an incremental against that same vm on the old job just to have it do that. The incremental jobs, because they were originally done quarterly, are nearly 2TB each. I would like to get some of that space back without breaking the chain... if that all makes sense.

It's not possible to apply retention without running a job, but you can configure VM exclusion and create a dummy restore point that basically does not contain anything and thus does not occupy storage space. Thanks!

Re: Deleting restore points without running a backup?
Would this work:
Leave the old job targetting the vm but put an exclusion in that job for that vm but also add a Tag that has nothing assigned to it? The job would find the vm, but exclude it, and then not find anything that has that tag. Sound right?
