Hello,
We have a cdp job for some specific vendor VMs where we would like to completely disable the long-term retention point, the vendor says that snapshots are not supported and could even harm the VMs. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be possible in the cdp job settings, you can't just disable the additional restore points, and need to have at least one. Is there a way to get around this?
Thanks.

Re: Disabling long term retention in a cdp job
Hello,
long term retention points are not a snapshot. So I'm not sure, what problem you try to solve.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Disabling long term retention in a cdp job
Hello,
I thought a snapshot was made. You can select aap instead for this so it really looks like a regular backup snapshot, but maybe it's not.
We discussed this here: vmware-vsphere-f24/cdp-and-aap-t87613.html
So what does it do exactly for these long term retention points if aap is not selected/used?
Thanks.

Re: Disabling long term retention in a cdp job
Hello,
if you use Windows, then you can have application consistency by running a VSS snapshot. That requires guest processing to be enabled. That was not mentioned in your post, so I thought this topic is about VMware snapshots. VMware snapshots never happen with CDP.

Re: Disabling long term retention in a cdp job
Hello,
OK thanks, clear, this is only for Windows VMs, and no snapshots at all for all VMs with cdp, so that's fine.
